Terms of Service
The short version. Cat Break is free and open source under the MIT licence. There is no account and nothing to pay. It is a gentle nudge, not a security control — don't rely on it for anything that matters. It comes with no warranty.
1. What these terms cover
These terms apply to the Cat Break browser extension and to the catbreak.com website. By installing the extension or using the site, you agree to them. If you do not, please uninstall the extension and stop using the site.
2. Licence
Cat Break is released under the MIT licence. You are free to use, copy, modify, and redistribute the source, subject to that licence. The full text and the complete source are in the GitHub repository.
The MIT licence covers the software. The Cat Break name, the wordmark, and the cat video clips are not granted to you by that licence — please don't republish the clips as your own or use the name in a way that suggests we endorse your project.
3. Cost
Cat Break is free. There is no paid tier, no subscription, no advertising, and no account. If you are ever asked to pay for Cat Break or to sign in to use it, you are not using our software.
4. What Cat Break is not
This matters, so it is stated plainly:
- It is not a security or parental control. Any break can be dismissed instantly with the Esc key or the Shoo button. That is deliberate — it is a speed bump, not a lock. Do not use it where a real restriction is required.
- It is not a health or medical product. It does not diagnose, treat, or manage any condition, including screen addiction. If screen use is affecting your wellbeing, please talk to a qualified professional.
- It is not a guaranteed timer. Browser behaviour, extension permissions, suspended tabs, and individual websites can all interfere with timing. The clock is best-effort.
5. Acceptable use
Don't use Cat Break or this site to break the law, to interfere with the service, or to attempt to gain unauthorised access to anything. Don't redistribute a modified build in a way that impersonates the official extension.
6. Availability
The cat videos are served from a third-party CDN, and the site is hosted by a third party. We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of Cat Break at any time, without notice. If the video CDN is unavailable, the extension may show no cat.
7. No warranty
Cat Break is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will cause you to take any breaks whatsoever.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the authors and copyright holders are not liable for any claim, damages, or other liability — whether in contract, tort, or otherwise — arising from or in connection with Cat Break or its use. This includes any lost work, missed deadline, or missed notification arising from an overlay appearing, failing to appear, or pausing media.
Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
9. Privacy
Covered separately in the privacy policy. In brief: the extension collects nothing, and this website uses Google Analytics.
10. Changes
These terms may change. The date at the top will change with them, and the full history is public in the GitHub repository. Continuing to use Cat Break after a change means you accept the updated terms.
